Take to the Pool This Winter
(Active Alex 11/2011 - Full Article)

With so many options for swim lessons, winter swim leagues and stroke schools available, there really is no excuse these days to not be active all winter. Our year-round teams lead the way for stroke schools and winter leagues designed to improve strokes for those already swimming.

MOR (Marlins of Raleigh) runs a popular Winter Swim League with instruction two days a week for 11 weeks starting Jan. 7. It includes two meets for experience putting lessons to work.

New Wave Swim Team also hosts a Winter Swim League with summer swim team in mind. The next six-week session starts Jan. 9 at Triangle Aquatic Center.

Streamline Swim School offers a league now through February, including intrasquad meets. Streamline also offers lessons, spring clinics and track-out options at Triangle Aquatic Center.

SwimAmerica, in conjunction with MOR, offers stroke school mid-week and Saturdays only as well as homeschool programs.

YOTA (YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team) has four more stroke school sessions starting in January. Each session includes six one-hour instructional classes focused on a different stroke and ending with a fun race day.

YMCAs in the area offer lessons and First Strokes clinics as well as Mini and Jr Competitor teams for ages 5 and up.

RSA (Raleigh Swimming Association) will offer its popular RSA in May stroke school in, well, May.

For the beginner or intermediate swimmer, lessons are available through

Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC)
Morrisville Aquatic & Fitness Center
Raleigh Parks and Recreation
Sport2Sport and
Triangle Swim School

to name a few. Take advantage of the “downtime” winter brings to start swimming or to keep your athlete in shape and improving!
