The Dreaded Ankle Sprain:
Audrey Diener

Apex High School pole vaulter, marching band member and recreational volleyball player Audrey Diener’s situation is not unusual – a recurring ankle injury. “It was silly things where Audrey would twist her ankle or she would step off a curb and be injured,” says her mother, Karla. “We thought she had weak ankles.”

But when Audrey suffered a right ankle sprain during pole vault practice and never seemed to recover that season, something had to be done.

She made an appointment with Dr. David Creech of Creech Chiropractic following the end of her sophomore year. “We had already gone to an orthopedic specialist and Audrey had been in physical therapy and was making progress but hadn’t yet made a full recovery,” says Karla. “Chiropractic was something we considered since this type of injury affects daily life and activities in the long-term.”

“Dr. Creech adjusted my ankle on the very first visit and I felt immediately more stable,” Audrey tells Active Alex. “I told my mom as we were walking out that I wished he had done my other ankle too!” After seeing Dr. Creech more frequently at first, Audrey had weekly visits over a span of about three months.

“A recurring ankle injury and chiropractic visit when I was young is what lead me to become a chiropractor,” Dr. Creech tells Active Alex. “Almost half of my patients come in for this reason, but I expect there are many more out there who would benefit. An inadequately treated ankle sprain can create abnormal overcompensation patterns and possibly more serious injuries in the knee, hip and/or low back.”

How is she doing now? “Second in the state in the pole vault and the Tri 9 Conference Champion going into her senior year,” says Karla. May next year bring more of the same, Audrey!

Dr. Creech has more information about recurring ankle sprains and treatment on his website at www.creechchiropractic.com.
